ERASE Racism is a New York civil rights organization based in Nassau and Suffolk County on Long Island. Our two program initiatives are Inclusive Housing and Education Equity. As a small organization with a big agenda, we often work collaboratively, sharing tasks and responsibilities across the organization to work towards our mission of identifying and addressing structural racism, especially on Long Island.
About the Internship:
This internship focuses on increasing ERASE Racism’s social media presence and impact visibility. Our Digital Activism Internship is your chance to lead and create change in the fight against structural racism. This is an opportunity to learn about the creative intersection between advocacy and digital media communications.
You should expect to:
- Learn, understand, and be able to teach others about structural racism
- Grow the organization’s social media presence: engage and educate the public on ERASE Racism’s work and increase awareness of the historical and ongoing manifestation of structural racism on Long Island
- Create a minimum of (2) posts per week
- Create branding campaigns
- Pitch creative storytelling ideas to share on social media
- Track, report, and improve data on engagement analytics
- Assist ERASE Racism staff with day to day organizational tasks
- Plan and present at an end of the year showcase.
Qualifications:
- This internship is open to all highschoolers attending Long Island public schools during the 2026-2027 school year. Repeat interns will not be accepted at this time.
- We're looking for people who demonstrate passion for learning about and fighting against structural racism.
- Prior experience in digital media communications is highly valued.
- Prior experience with ERASE Racism and/or knowledge of structural racism as a historical framework is highly valued.
Details:
This is a paid internship at $17/hr. The anticipated work-schedule will be Monday-Thursday, 6.5 hours/day, with the exception of the first week, which will be Tuesday-Friday. This program will run through Tuesday June 30th to Thursday July 30th.
The internship will operate on a hybrid (2 days in person) schedule. Interns must be available to commute to the office (6800 Jericho Turnpike, Syosset, NY). The schedule is subject to occasional change depending on internship activities, for example field trips that may fall outside of normal working hours.
